The LIT - Leibniz Institute for Immunotherapy (foundation under civil law) (https://lit.eu/) – is a biomedical research center focusing on translational immunology in the fields of cancer immunotherapy, transplant rejection and autoimmunity. The objective of the LIT is to develop innovative and efficient cellular immune therapeutics in these areas. Our own GMP laboratories and close networking with University and University Hospital offer excellent opportunities for clinical translation of novel immune cell products.

The Division of Functional Immune Cell Modulation, led by Professor Luca Gattinoni, is seeking a highly motivated and reliable Technical Assistant to join our dynamic team as a temporary substitution.

Technical Assistant (m/f/d) – LG-2026-4

(full time, 40.1 hours per week)

The position is available immediately and is limited until 31 December 2026, with the possibility of extension depending on the availability of funds.

Our Division develops next-generation adoptive T cell therapies, with a focus on T memory stem cells, T cell differentiation, metabolic fitness, and the engineering of CAR- and TCR-redirected T cell products for clinical translation.

The successful candidate will provide hands-on technical support to the ongoing research projects of the Division and contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the laboratory. Given the immediate start, we are particularly interested in candidates who can quickly become productive in a fast-paced research environment.

Your tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Isolation, culture, and expansion of primary human and murine T cells and other immune cell types
  • Genetic engineering of T cells, including lentiviral and retroviral transduction and CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing
  • Performing phenotypic and functional assays, including:
    • Multiparameter flow cytometry and cell sorting support
    • Proliferation, cytokine, and cytotoxicity assays
    • Metabolic assays (e.g., Seahorse bioenergetics)
  • Standard molecular biology techniques, such as DNA/RNA isolation, PCR/qPCR, and molecular cloning
  • Production and titration of viral vectors
  • Processing, cryopreservation, and biobanking of samples, including inventory management
  • General laboratory management, including ordering of reagents and consumables, maintenance of equipment, and compliance with safety (S1/S2) regulations
  • Accurate documentation of experiments and data in accordance with good laboratory practice
  • Supporting scientists and students in the planning and execution of experiments

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • A completed vocational training as a technical assistant (BTA, MTLA, CTA, or equivalent), or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedicine, or a related discipline
  • Practical experience in cell culture, ideally with primary immune cells and sterile techniques
  • Hands-on experience with flow cytometry and standard molecular biology methods
  • Experience with viral transduction, CRISPR gene editing, or immunological assays is highly advantageous
  • Familiarity with work under S1/S2 biosafety conditions
  • A precise, well-organized, and independent working style, combined with strong team spirit
  • Good communication skills in English; knowledge of German is an advantage
  • Flexibility and the ability to start at short notice

We offer:

  • An international cutting-edge research environment that offers exciting and diverse opportunities

  • Flat hierarchies and short decision-making processes

  • A highly motivated and cooperative team

  • Flexible working hours
